ON 23 NOVEMBER 1942
At around midnight on 22 November 1942, a formation of high-flying Japanese bombers attacked Coomalie Creek airfield in the Northern Territory. All the bombs fell in the scrub and did no damage to the airfield. At least two Japanese bombers were shot down. 31 Squadron RAAF had only arrived at the newly completed Coomalie Creek airfield on 12 November 1942.
