64 ANTI-AIRCRAFT
SEARCHLIGHT COMPANY (64 AASL COY)
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WW2
64 Anti-aircraft Searchlight Company (64 AASL Coy) was formed late in 1940. They used 53 AASL Coy locations at Maribyrnong for intensive practical training. As training progressed they took over some of 53 AASL Coy positions.
The men of 64 AASL Coy were war duration conscripts. These personnel were referred to as USP's our Universal Service Personnel.
In October 1941, 64 AASL Coy carried out a 3 week period of intensive training. Each man took turns at doing every other person's role. 53 AASL Coy and 65 AASL Coy took over their positions at that point in time.
Some of the men from 54 AASL Coy in Darwin were relieved by some reinforcements from 64 AASL Coy, Eastern Command to allow them to take some leave. This allowed 54 AASL Coy to occupy some new locations. This enabled them to occupy the following sites:-
The HQ Camp for the Anti-aircraft Searchlight Batteries in Darwin was located at McMillan.
