SIGNAL PLOTTING COMPANY
565TH SIGNAL AIRCRAFT WARNING BATTALION
The 565th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion arrived in Brisbane on the USAT "Tasker Bliss" on 18 June 1942 under the command of Major Harley D. Hughes and initially they were housed at Camp Doomben. On 27 June 1942, the 565th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion, less the Signal Plotting Company, left Camp Doomben and relocated to Camp Columbia at Wacol.
The 565th comprised three main units:-
Signal Plotting Company
1st Signal Reporting Company (included 7 reporting Platoons)
2 Signal Reporting Company (included 7 reporting Platoons)
The Signal Plotting Company comprised:-
Headquarters Signal Plotting Company
1st Detachment
Plotting Platoon "A"
Plotting Platoon "B"
Plotting Platoon "C"
On 30 August 1942, the Headquarters of the Signal Plotting Company left Camp Doomben and moved their quarters to the Brown Building (Thomas Brown building) at 143 Eagle Street, Brisbane.
The 1st Detachment, Signal Plotting Company left for Cairns in far north Queensland on 2 October 1942. They arrived at their new station in Cairns on 7 October 1942.
Plotting Platoon "A", and Plotting Platoon "B" of Signal Plotting Company left Brisbane for Cairns on 4 November 1942. They arrived at their new station in Cairns on 11 November 1942.
Plotting Platoon "C" of Signal Plotting Company left Brisbane for New Guinea on 15 November 1942. They arrived in New Guinea on 26 November 1942.
