7TH REPORTING PLATOON (IRON RANGE)
1ST SIGNAL REPORTING COMPANY
565TH SIGNAL AIRCRAFT WARNING BATTALION

The 565th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion arrived in Brisbane on the USAT "Tasker Bliss" on 18 June 1942 under the command of Major Harley D. Hughes and initially they were housed at Camp Doomben.  On 27 June 1942, the 565th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion, less the Signal Plotting Company, left Camp Doomben and relocated to Camp Columbia at Wacol.

The 565th comprised three main units:-

• Signal Plotting Company

• 1st Signal Reporting Company (included 7 reporting Platoons)

• 2 Signal Reporting Company (included 7 reporting Platoons)

The Headquarters of the 1st Signal Reporting Company left Camp Columbia at Wacol for their new station at Camp Muckley located near Archerfield Airfield on 1 October 1942.

The 7th Reporting Platoon, 1st Signal Reporting Company, 565th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion left Camp Columbia for their new station at Iron Range in far north  Queensland on 5 August 1942. They were also possibly at nearby Portland Roads and had a Plotting Company with 3 Platoons in Cairns in far north Queensland.
