5TH REPORTING PLATOON (TOOWOOMBA)
1ST SIGNAL REPORTING COMPANY
565TH SIGNAL AIRCRAFT WARNING BATTALION
The 565th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion arrived in Brisbane on the USAT "Tasker Bliss" on 18 June 1942 under the command of Major Harley D. Hughes and initially they were housed at Camp Doomben. On 27 June 1942, the 565th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion, less the Signal Plotting Company, left Camp Doomben and relocated to Camp Columbia at Wacol.
The 565th comprised three main units:-
Signal Plotting Company
1st Signal Reporting Company (included 7 reporting Platoons)
2 Signal Reporting Company (included 7 reporting Platoons)
The Headquarters of the 1st Signal Reporting Company left Camp Columbia at Wacol for their new station at Camp Muckley located near Archerfield Airfield on 1 October 1942.
The 5th Reporting Platoon, 1st Signal Reporting Company, 565th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion left Camp Columbia for their new station in Toowoomba in southern Queensland on 11 September 1942. They arrived at their new station in Toowoomba on 11 September 1942 but returned to Camp Columbia on 25 September 1942.
The 5th Reporting Platoon, 1st Signal Reporting Company, 565th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion left Camp Columbia for New Guinea on 28 September 1942. They arrived at their new station at Barakau Point in New Guinea on 7 October 1942.
