TOKKO
JAPANESE CIVILIAN POLICE DURING WWII
THE THOUGHT POLICE
The Tokko, or The Thought Police as they were known, were the equivalent of Hitler's Gestapo. In the early 1930's before WWII, the Tokko welcomed secret communications from its citizens about other citizens. They encourage citizens to spy on each other.
Sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Tokku, which has the meaning of "Special Zone".
