Beaufort Bomber

Ralph Cusack is restoring an Australian built RAAF Beaufort Bomber, A9-141 (VH-KTW) to flying condition near Brisbane at:-

Hangar 106,
Lot 104 McNaught Road,
Caboolture Air Field,
Caboolture,
QLD 4150

It was one of the 700 Beaufort bombers that were built at the D.A.P. assembly plants at Fishermans Bend in Melbourne, Victoria and Mascot, near Sydney in New South Wales.

A9-141 served with both 7 Squadron RAAF and 14 Squadron RAAF and No.1 Operational Training Unit (1 OTU).

Beaufort A9-141 ground looped during take off at Tocumwal airfield in New South Wales in about January 1944. It was converted to components after the crash. It had been delivered to the RAAF in October 1942.

A Mark VIII RAAF Beaufort, Serial No. A9-501 of 1AD, piloted by Mr. Brockhouse, crashed at Gove on 18 August 1945 during a ferry flight. It was converted to components. Parts of that aircraft have been used to restore Beaufort A9-141 initially in Brisbane and now at Caboolture.

The restoration group are still in need of a significant amount of capital to finish this restoration project which began way back in 1982.
