Sans Souci Officers' Club, Southport - the sign on ground at left says "Officer's Convalescent Area"
The American Red Cross Sans Souci Officer's Club was located in the Hotel Sans Souci at Main Beach Parade, Main Beach, Southport. Mrs. H. Swope was the director of the American Red Cross Sans Souci Officer's Club in 1945. Some references incorrectly show the name as "San Souci".
Officers of the Special Intelligence Service based in Brisbane enjoyed their visits to the Sans Souci Officer's Club.
The area is now called Main Beach and is part of the city of the Gold Coast. The Hotel Sans Souci opened as a private hotel in 1938. It's owner was Mr. L.P. Quinn.
During a cyclone in 1951 the beach was washed away to within 4 metres of the hotel.
John Vances was an owner of the Hotel Sans Souci after WW2. He remodelled the hotel in 1956. Tom Perrin was the manager of the hotel at that time. The hotel was later transformed into the Glen Pacific Private Hospital.
In about 1981/82 it was demolished and the "Golden Sands on the Beach" apartments at 3575 Main Beach Parade, Main Beach were built on the same spot.
