MAREEBA STATE SCHOOL, MAREEBA,
QLD
COMMANDEERED BY THE MILITARY DURING WW2
The Mareeba State School in Mareeba in tropical north Queensland was acquired by Hirings Section, No. 1 Lines of Communication (No. 1 L of C) during WW2. The sisters at the Mareeba Convent were asked to accommodate the students from the Mareeba State School.
Staggered hours were used to make best use of the convents school's facilities and teacher resources. The convent school children had their lessons in the morning and the state school children in the afternoon.
