"KIRKSTON",
RUPERT STREET
IN WINDSOR, BRISBANE, QLD
USED BY FAR EASTERN LIAISON OFFICE (FELO)
"Kirkston", Rupert Street, Windsor
Naval Commander John Proud relocated Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) to Brisbane where he commandeered a house called "Kirkston" in Rupert Street, Windsor. It is located at the end of a dead street on the top of a small hill overlooking Lutwyche Road near the Albion overpass intersection. There were a number of fibro huts erected in the grounds of "Kirkston" during WW2.
In October 1944, the Brisbane Courier Mail reported that "Kirkston" was being used as a mess for officers of the AWAS, AANS and the AAMWS. There was accommodation for up to 25 officers from interstate who were posted to Brisbane, country officers who were posted to Brisbane or officers who were passing through Brisbane.
