"KELSEY", HIRON STREET,
ST. LUCIA, BRISBANE, QLD
USED BY THE MILITARY DURING WWII
The house known as "Kelsey" in Hiron Street, St. Lucia was commandeered by the military during WWII and used as quarters for a number of very senior Australian Army officers attached to Allied Land Forces Advanced Headquarters which was located at the Forgan Smith and Steele Buildings, at the site of the future University of Queensland, at St. Lucia.
The Officers staying at "Kelsey" in June 1943 were as follows:-
DCGS - Major General Frank Horton Berryman
DMI - Brigadier John David Rogers
DA & QMG Major-General J. A. Chapman
In August 1939, "Kelsey" was owned by Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Byrne.
UPDATE - 23 August 2016 - I just found this article in the Telegraph (Brisbane), about a house called "Kelsey" in Hiron Street, St. Lucia. The photos in this article look very much like the house at 28 Hiron Street.
Can anyone please confirm the house number for "Kelsey"?
28 Hiron Street,
St Lucia
was it used by General Douglas MacArthur
during WWII?
