CAMP WEMBLEY, WA
DURING WW2
There was a very large US Army base at Wembley in Western Australia in the area where John Sanders Drive is now located.
A number of elderly residents in the area have said that there was a very large Anti-aircraft unit there also, as well as a Refurbishment Depot and a Collection point and Retraining camp for those US personnel that arrived in Western Australia after the early defeats in south east Asia. It was also the US Leave and Transit Depot (LTD) in Western Australia. Also many locals have indicated that the Americans buried a lot of stuff there.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I'd like to thank Ernie Polis for his kind assistance with information for this and many other pages about POW and Internment camps in Western Australia.
Can anyone help me with more information?
