The original old Service Station at 108 Breakfast Creek Rd, Newstead
The Service Station at 108 Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead on the corner of Jordan Terrace was built in 1928.
In 1935 it was P. G. Fegan's Service Station
The Brasch family bought the Service Station between 1935 and 1938 and lived in the house that was built behind the Service Station.
On 7 December 1938 the following advertisement appeared in the Telegraph:-
"WANTED smart Lad of fifteen for service station. Apply personally, Braschs, 108 Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead."
On 7 December 1939 the following advertisement appeared in the Telegraph:-
"WANTED capable young Girl assist housework. Apply Mrs Brasch 108 Breakfast Creek Rd., Newstead."
It has changed hands a number of times over the years. In June 2018 it was empty after being sold. In February 2017 it was being used by a truck rental company.
On 14 February 2017 Brisbane City Council supported a Temporary Local Planning Instrument (TLPI) over the site which would protect the building from adverse impacts for one year. The report indicated that the site was of cultural heritage and its original use was as a Quick Service Station which provided modern driveway facilities to motorists. The TLPI was forwarded to the State Infrastructure and Planning Minister Jackie Trad.
During WWII the service station was commandeered by the US Navy and became their main petrol station for the US Navy, in the Brisbane area.
