MERCHANT MARINE ANTI-AIRCRAFT TRAINING
CENTER
AT WELLINGTON POINT
BRISBANE, QLD DURING WW2
The 84th Battalion and 55th Battalion of the Seabees constructed a Merchant Marine anti-aircraft training station at Wellington Point while they were based in Brisbane. Also known as the Wellington Point Gunnery School, A.A.T.C. (Navy)
These two Seabee Battalions also built U.S. Mobile Hospital No. 9 (MOB 9) in June 1943, some additional barracks, and a Mine Depot at Mount Coot-tha.
Aircraft (possibly flying boats) from Archerfield airfield would fly over The Redlands Area with a large silk target attached via a very long thin stainless steel wire attached to the rear of the aircraft.

Can anyone tell me if this is the
same Gunnery School?
Can anyone tell me exactly where this training center was located?
Are there any remnants of the camp still there?
