JAPANESE
RECCE FLIGHT
OVER TOWNSVILLE, QLD
ON 22 MARCH 1942
The War Diary for the 31st Battalion shows the following entry on 22 March 1942:-
1200? hours 22 March 1942
Second Jap RECCE plane over city
The War Diary for "Townsville Fixed Defences Heavy Artillery" has the following entry for 22 March 1942:-
"Unidentified Aircraft over aerodrome at 1200 hrs. at great height. May have been Wirraway.
Note:- I cannot find any reference to this in NEA HQs, 3 FSHQ or 4 VAOC ORBs. So I am unsure if the entry in the 31st Battalion War Diary is correct. There was however a detailed report of a Japanese Recce aircraft over Townsville on the previous day in the War Diary for "Townsville Fixed Defences Heavy Artillery".
