Hello Peter.

Rummaging thru some old aviation stuff left by my late father, I found a few photos of RAAF Wirraways and views of Archerfield taken by a WW2 photographer named W Myers.

One of these is attached. It is a Wirraway from 23 Squadron RAAF being flown by "Pop" Wood (whoever he is) in 1941.

If you are interested in this sort of material, I will send a few more as time allows.

Regards,

Bruce Hall

Peter,

Another picture for you. This one is of a landing mishap in a Wirraway. There is no indication of where this was taken or which Squadron, although it is reasonable to assume it belongs to 23 Squadron, I think.

Peter,

I think you'll like this one. It was taken by W. Myers. It is entitled "Bobby Gibbs doing full roll in Wirraway". Note the position of the alerons. The underside detail of the Wirraway is fantastic. Can you tell me if A20-109 belonged to 23 Squadron?

Regards,

Bruce Hall

I think he was an official war photographer that my father knew. I recall seeing some of his photos when he visited back in the late 1950's. There were a lot of shots from new Guinea operations showing bombing runs and straffing attacks on shipping, as I recall.

I am still working thru the material my father left and I will let you know if I find more of his pics.

I still have a few more Wirraway shots to send to you plus a couple of Archerfield from the air. Also one of MacArthur's Liberators at Archerfield.

Regards,

Bruce

Hi Peter,

I should have sent these pics to you earlier so that you could have included them in your update of your web site.

Two pics are of Archerfield aerodrome taken from a Wirraway, the other is of Wirraways flying in formation. All were taken by W. Myers. He must have used a fine grain film for these and his other shots because the detail really shows up when they are enlarged.

Regards,

Bruce Hall
