Venn landing-ground was located south east of Katherine. It was initially called Wilson Airfield after Lieutenant Wilson who was a member of the US 43rd Eng Reg. It was later renamed Venn Airfield after Flying Officer John Hester Venn, a former insurance clerk from Perth who was killed in action over Ambon on 13 May 1942.
