No. 85 Squadron RAAF was established at Guildford in the south west of Western Australia. They were initially equipped with six Brewster Buffaloes in March 1943. These were replaced not long after in April 1943 with eleven Boomerangs and a Dakota. The Squadron stayed at Guildford until it was disbanded at Pearce in December 1945. A detachment of 85 Squadron was initially located at Learmonth in the Potshot area and then later at Derby on the northern coastline of Western Australia.
