CRASH OF AN AVRO ANSON
AT BLACK FOREST, VIC
ON 9 MAY 1943
Avro Anson DG826 of 1 Aircraft Depot Laverton RAAF, crashed whilst flying in fog into a hill in Black Forest, two miles west of Mount Macedon, in Victoria at 0730 hours E.S.T. on Sunday 9 May 1943.
Three members of the four men crew were killed as follows:-
Flight Lieutenant Richard Craigton Hart (260719) - Pilot - 1 Aircraft Depot Laverton - killed
Flight Lieutenant Warren Robert Brodrick (256823) - Passenger - Station HQ Laverton - killed
Sergeant Vincent Ambrose McCarthy (8940) - Passenger - 1 Aircraft Depot Laverton - killed
Flight Sergeant Norman Eric Mutton (406575) - Observer - seriously injured
Avro Anson DG826 had earlier departed from No. 1 Aircraft Depot at Laverton on a travel flight to Mildura. They wer ferrying Sergeant McCarthy and Vultee Vengeance repair equipment and spare parts to Mildura.
