CRASH OF A KITTYHAWK
AT LIVERPOOL IN ABT AUG 1942
AND THEN AGAIN 1 MILE SW Of LIVERPOOL, NSW ON 4 MARCH 1944
Information from an unknown source suggests that P-40E Kittyhawk, A29-142 (#41-36236), crashed at Liverpool in August 1942. This aircraft entered service on 13 August 1942.
Can anyone confirm whether there was an incident with this aircraft in August 1942?
On the 4 March 1944, P-40E Kittyhawk, A29-142 (#41-36236), crashed 1 mile SW of Liverpool in New South Wales whilst making practice attacks. Apparently the fuel pressure dropped to zero and fuel came into the cockpit area and eventually caught fire. The pilot P/O Walter Gregory Casley (403425) was burned in the crash but survived.
The RAAF cleaned up the crash site very well with nearly all of the debris being removed.
