US ARMY CAMP
ST. VINCENT'S ORPHANAGE
NUDGEE, BRISBANE, QLD
AUSTRALIA DURING WWII
The 94 Coast Artillery (AA) Regiment, 40th Anti-aircraft Brigade established their Headquarters for their searchlight units at St. Vincent's Orphanage located at the northern end of St. Vincent's Road, Nudgee, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
The following is a short piece about the American occupation of St. Vincent's Orphanage written by Sister M. Redempta R.S.M.:-
The Americans wanted to base their headquarters in All Hallows', and I think it was only a prayer that saved it. They did take over some of our land at Nudgee and put tents on it for their officers. They lived in prefabricated huts. They did not disturb us except after a severe storm when they came to see if any of our lines were down.
