There are a total of 2,371 Royal Australian Air Force personnel
including W.A.A.A.F.s buried in War Cemeteries or public & private
cemeteries or listed on various Memorials around Australia in the
calendar years 1939 to 1945. A high percentage of these would
have died in military aircraft crashes in Australia during WWII.

Problem Solved
It took 3 years to find the answer

I started these home page on 3 May 1998 in the hope of finding out the details of a P-38 Lightning crash that I was told about by one of my mates in the late 1950's or early 1960's. At the time, I found it hard to believe that a P-38 Lightning would have crash landed on the salt pan in Townsville. This saltpan had been my childhood play ground. I was certainly not aware that Townsville was so involved in wartime activities.
