5TH FIELD REGIMENT
HQ 5TH AUSTRALIAN DIVISION
IN AUSTRALIA DURING WW2

The 5th Field Regiment arrived from Brisbane by train at Partington Siding, 16kms south of Townsville on 4 May 1942 after a long train journey from Brisbane. The main party of the following units travelled to Townsville at the same time:-

- HQ 5th Australian Division

- 29th Infantry Brigade

- 11th Infantry Brigade

- 15th Australian Infantry Battalion

- 101st Ant-Tank Regiment

It is believed the 5th Field Regiment initially camped at Partington.

Alfred James Blond (Q107130) from Brisbane was a soldier in the 5th Australian Field Regiment Company. He enlisted on 7 May 1941 in Brisbane and was called up for duty on 10 January 1942. His son Gary Blond, has a copy of his father's “ Service and Casualty Form “.

The first entry on his Service and Casualty Form was for Townsville was 29 June 1942 where he was shown as being sick. 

He was then sent to Darwin arriving there on 8 July 1943. He subsequently became a member of 1 Aust. L of C, Provost company. It appears that he was then transferred back from Darwin to Queensland in March 1945. His promotion to Corporal was confirmed in August 1945. He was discharged from the Army on 17 January 1946.
